Cragg Emerges as Internal Candidate

Mike Cragg, Duke’s associate athletic director and director of the Legacy Fund, has emerged as the leading internal candidate to replace Joe Alleva as Director of Athletics. Cragg told The Chronicle about two weeks ago that he was “definitely interested” and would “definitely apply.”

Cragg joined the athletic department in 1987 and was promoted to Sports Information Director in 1990. He has led the Duke Basketball Legacy Fund since 1999 and in 2004, he was promoted to associate athletic director.

Interim Director of Athletics Chris Kennedy told The Chronicle he was not interested in the permamenent position the day after he was appointed to his current role. and Senior Women’s Adminstrator Jacki Silar told The Herald-Sun that she was not interested in the position.
